Distribution

Distribution has become a seller’s market during the pandemic as distributors across all platforms are desperate for new content. With production stalled for the better part of 2020 and 2021, the normally consistent pipeline of new movies and TV series dried up, creating a void ready to be filled by filmmakers with good product. Thus, we enter a target-rich environment aiming to capitalize on this need.

Simplifying film distribution can be daunting due to the myriad of opportunities. Basically, there are three primary ways movies make their way to eager consumers:

●Theatrical

●Streaming Services

●Cable/Satellite/VOD

Our distribution strategy will encompass both domestic and international distribution in all three areas.

THEATRICAL

Prior to the pandemic, this was the gold ring of distribution scenarios. Now, theatrical distribution, while still viable, has almost become a secondary tier. Even prior to lockdowns, more and more movie-goers were staying home and watching movies on their super HD, big-screen televisions. And why not? The ease, the comfort, the picture, and the affordability all lend to a phenomenal at-home experience. That said, 2022 saw theaters re-opening to crowds anxious to again experience cinema on large screens with fellow fans. Accordingly, we will pursue theatrical distribution as part of an overall plan.

STREAMING SERVICES

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Apple TV+, HBO Max, and many other services offer direct to viewer distribution, making it easier than ever for film fans to access and watch movies. The pandemic had a profound effect on the growth and popularity of these services. Netflix alone added 8.5 million subscribers in the 4th quarter of 2020, and this trend has continued across all platforms. Both exclusive and non-exclusive deals can be made and landing a profitable deal with a streaming service will be a focus of our distribution strategy.

CABLE/SATELLITE/VOD

Finally, additional revenue streams through cable companies, Satellite providers, and VOD services offer additional opportunities for distribution. Content is king as cable networks look to enhance their libraries and draw viewers. As an alternative to cable companies, DirecTV & Dish, offer distribution via their satellite networks. Additionally, the cable media companies all offer direct-to-viewer VOD to their subscribers.

INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION

International distribution can make up a huge amount of a film’s distribution income. International distribution reaches an audience many times that of the domestic market. Territories can be sold individually, in groups, or globally for both short, long-term, and renewing contracts. Often, international distribution can even be pre-sold based on story and cast.

DISTRIBUTION AGENTS

As part of our distribution strategy, we will engage a distribution agent specializing in the marketing and contractual details of selling our film on as many platforms as possible. These film reps have unique insight and connections that will allow us to maximize profits and markets.

FILM FESTIVALS

Film Festivals have become a fantastic coming out party for independent movies of all genres. Generating strong advance word-of-mouth and serving as a marketplace, new title sales records are being set, especially during the pandemic. In 2021, Apple TV+ smashed the previous record for an acquisition at the Sundance Film Festival, paying a previously unheard of $25,000,000 for the rights to the indie feature CODA, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Sundance is just one of many prestigious film festivals we will aim to enter. Others include: SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, Telluride Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Santa Barbara Film Festival, and Slamdance. Additionally, we will look to enter genre-specific festivals as well, which relate to the subject of the film. And there are several outstanding international festivals we will also consider entering. These run throughout the calendar year and are not mutually exclusive. Our Producer, David Parks, had his first film premiere at SXSW, considered one of the top three festivals in the country.
